TAAO's Rio Grande Valley Chapter 2020 Conference a Huge Hit

Tip your hats to the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) TAAO Chapter for a great 2020 conference down at the tip of Texas at South Padre Island. That's why the event is called "RGV TAAO Tip-O-Texas Conference" by the way. The weather was a bit windy but it's the coast so what do you expect? The beaches were clear, water calm but the conference was hopping.

It started Thursday evening ending late Saturday afternoon. The best part? Everything.

Thursday was the opening reception that was followed by Friday which was fun day with golf in the day and the dinner, dancing and a crazy photo booth in the evening. Most important, though, was the networking. There was so much catching up to do as well as new friends to be made. And trust me, there were many new friendships made that evening. That's the whole point, eh?

Saturday was the program day that began with a the presentation of colors, pledge of allegiance, national anthem and invocation. Then South Padre Island Mayor Patrick McNulty and TAAO President Cathy Atkinson welcomed the attendees and kicking off the great day of speakers.

It began with Connie Rose going over the new changes from the Texas legislature. Followed by the Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr. speaking about the challenges and benefits to the growth in the area. Next up was Mike Amezquita who passed on his wisdom and experience of creating a top workplace culture and how important that is to customer service. Ken Nolan updated the group for more legislative changes and how CADs may be a target for next session. Peggy Wardlaw finished the morning speakers with the taxing nuances of solar and wind properties.

After lunch, TAAO Board Member Janet Jennings-Doyle or JJ, once again stole the show on how important communication is in the office and to the thousands of customers calling in every day. Brent South followed with the fundamentals of effective legislative advocacy then ended with former TAAO President Paul Villareal espousing his philosophy - "I want to do something good today, followed by doing something better tomorrow."

After the last speaker there were 750 gifts (Okay, maybe not that many but plenty to go around) awarded in the raffle prizes. The best was the $1000 dollar prize that also benefited their scholarship fund. Tip-o-Tex hats off to this year's conference sponsors (see below) and President Hector Briones, Rick Moreno and the entire slate of great TAAO RGV Chapter officers who put on a conference well worth the drive and flight down to the tip of Texas for an event for the memory books.

If it could be summed up in one short sentence, Hector does it perfectly, "We hit it out of the ball park!"
